One great poet in Shrinivási [born 1926] from the country of Surinam. The poem "In the bird's..." is a great one, it's a short poem from here at PoetryInternational, translated by Scott Rollins. He has great imagery and a modern tone. It's quite a style to pull off, and here it's done excellently.

In the bird’s long silence I step into the day
like palm trees their song rustles every which way
clearing the air of a bloody past that once held sway [...]
Ik loop de dag in de vogels lang gezwegen
ruisen hun lied als palmen allerwegen
zuiveren de lucht van het bloederig verleden [...]
