Ivanhoe by Scott

One book try try if you like ancient Celtic and Saxon society is Scott's Ivanhoe, which you can read here. It helps to read through a plot synopsis first, then you can totally appreciate everything that's going on. It's a really fun read, very exciting.

All the twists and turns are fun, as is the language. It's such a sweet heroic story, it calls to mind Tolkien, except much more satisfying. It's easier for Aragorn than for the hero of Ivanhoe. The book is a great way to ease into learning about the Saxons, Normans, Celts, Picts and other ancient groups.
