Gabriel Rosenstock

Languages are something to marvel at. No made up fantasy could top how diverse and endless the real world is--so when I saw this great poem in Irish Gaelic by the Irish Gabriel Rosenstock at PoetryInternational, I was excited to feature it. Here's more on him and more poems.

His poem "Maenad" is great, it's here, and "Like an Owl" is neat too, it's here. Here's an excerpt from his other poem "Liadhain":

(I)
Liadhain…                                                          Liadhain …
Knowledge flowed between us.                      Bhí fios agam di.
I am Cuirithir.                                                   Mé Cuirithir.
God goes halves in me                                     Le Dia a leath dhíom
with Liadhain                                                    le Liadhain an leath eile

God’s share                                                       An leath dhíom ar le Dia í
is sterile, lifeless,                                             is seasc, marbh

Liadhain’s                                                          An leath is Liadhain
boils me alive                                                    is bruithneach
